Works #15

Sorry for getting behind. The whole family has been sick.

Cool that you moved from a weekly schedule back to a daily schedule again.

As for the theme of this particular week's "Works", are these people we know? Some of the faces look familiar.

How are you doing?

Hope you and yours are feeling in the pink now.

We moved from Arizona to New Mexico last month and a weekly schedule was hard enough to keep during that particularly stressful time. We have left the Navajo Nation behind and now live 33 miles from the Mexican border.

Yes, you should recognize the faces. The people are all famous. However, I'm not the best caricaturist in the world so you may or may not be able to and it's entirely my fault not yours if you can't. I was wearing my Warhol hat ... er ... wig and drawing celebrity mug shots that week.

I'm doing much better now. Thanks!

Funny that you should say "in the pink", because among the colds, flu's, and stomach bugs, my daughter also came home with pink eye.

See this is what I mean by you needing to make personal updates. I did not even know you were moving. I bet the whole story would make a good journal comic. Ha!

I am not sure if it is your "caricaturist" or my lack of pop culture. I hate celebrity news stuff and generally stick to listening to NPR (which means I occasionally hear about people, but do not know what they look like).

I tried to write an update about my trials and tribulations in October but decided against it in the end. I prefer to use my LiveJournal as an outlet for my artwork rather than to expound my personal views or document my day to day existence. My readership only averages about 15 people a day and Hugo and yourself are the only two that ever leave comments. So, I just felt that other than yourself no one was really all that interested.

All of these mug shots date back to an era when a "celebrity" being arrested didn't qualify as "real" news. However, I'm sure they were reported upon in some fashion even way back then.

Maybe we should just start e-mailing each other every now and then :)

So you are going to make me guess I suppose. This one is James Brown?

My email address can be found on my "User Info" page. Send me a message and I'll add you to my contact list. Being on this list entitles you to the occasional "Darshan News" update.

Your guess is correct. This is supposed to be "The Godfather of Soul." I knew after my Sinatra drawing I was in trouble but forced myself to complete the project anyway. However, in retrospect I wish I had chosen to draw mug shots of anonymous nobodies instead.

Criminal (which is no longer on her shop, hence the wayback) was a mini/zine, in which Sarah Morean (aka plasticframes) found a bunch of old mug shots without their crime and drew them.

It was a good exercise but I was happy to stop after just five.
