I've seen that Tom and Jerry cartoon, I think it was the first one. Not sure about the mammy question.

In "Puss Gets The Boot" the cat is clearly named "Jasper" but in other cartoons his name is with out a doubt "Thomas." As to my "Mammy" question, I've seen her referred to as both a maid and as Tom's owner. I assume this is correct because in the years the cartoons were created they wouldn't have portrayed a black woman as anything but a maid. However, since when were maids allowed to have pets? In later years "Mammy' was repainted as a white woman and her voice was re-dubbed as well.

I used to have "the art of Tom and Jerry vol. 1" on laserdisc. I love the old cartoons. I ended up selling my laserdisc collection and player on ebay a few years ago, kinda wish I still had them.

Growing up I watched "Bugs Bunny," "Popeye," and "The Flintstone's." "Tom and Jerry" is a newly acquired taste. Although, I now watch them everyday like a babysitter watches her soaps.
