Why do we celebrate the end of the year? Everyone always goes out "partying" or they throw a party themselves. Everyone except me, that is. To quote the poet Lee Groban, "I THROW a party like George Gobel THROWS a baseball." I haven't drunk liquor since I was 17 years old and I've never had a driver's license. So, you can count on me not driving drunk tonight. My wife and I have absolutely no plans for this evening except to spend the night together. This will be our first New Year's in Arizona and we have no one else to spend it with even if we wanted to. We're our own best company, anyway. I do realize that another year has gone by but that's why we celebrate birthdays, and is getting older really just cause for celebration? My wife spent the afternoon cleaning the house and then we went out for lunch. Tonight, we will stay up late together for a change. Then, ring in the New Year with a kiss. But as the X song goes, "The world's a mess, it's in my kiss," and that's not going to change over night. I am not making any resolutions either because I don't want to make any promises I can't keep. I hope to have a comic on-line soon but I'm sure you are sick of hearing about that. This journal was meant to be my annotation to the web comic. However, as that is still in the works, you've had to listen to me get more personal and political than I had ever intended. I hope next year, I can concentrate on my comics exclusively. So, when the ball drops, be happy and leave the past behind. "The future is unwritten."
