Natty Dreadlocks and The Bear #78

I was talking to my oldest daughter about this subject earlier this morning. When I was a kid, Saturday morning cartoons was a special thing. It was the only day you wanted to get up early in the morning (the rest of the week "five more minutes mom"). However, there is nothing special about Saturday morning anymore. My cable company has The Disney Channel, Toon Disney, Nickelodeon, Nickelodeon West, Cartoon Network, Nicktoons, Noggin, Discovery Kids, Sprout that show cartoons 24/7 (except for Nick and Disney that after a time start showing tweener shows like Hannah Montana). Why should the major networks even compete with that? It really is a shame.

Sponge Bob sucks.

I used SpongeBob as the poster child for everything that's wrong with cartoons today. It seems like all the advances in technology have only made animation worse. I'll take Bugs Bunny over Johnny Test and The Flintstones over The Happy Monster Band any day of the week and twice on Saturday.

I wish that Saturday morning cartoons still meant something. The 24-hour thing gets a bit crazy. My kid always wants something on just as background noise and it drives me nuts!

I probably sound like a grumpy old coot talking about how things used to be in the "olden days" but cartoons have always been near and dear to my heart. Give me Astroboy or give me the remote.
