Since On The Seventh Day...

It's brand new year and time for a fresh start. My New Year's resolution is to be more professional and less prolific. I want to create quality not quantity over the next 52 weeks. Last year, I posted a lot of new artwork and "Natty Dreadlocks and The Bear" proved to be the most popular thing I've ever done. However, my "Cane" comics failed to attract an audience and "Works" didn't work out any better. So, I've chosen to turn off the computer and go back to the drawing board.

My plan for the new year is to post weekly rather than daily as I have been. Each Sunday, I hope to have a new page finished and will post it here as well as on Web Comics Nation. I may post an occasional doodle or diatribe but for the most part I'll only be seen online once a week for the duration of 2009. I want to finish "Warlock Hotel" and "Art & Life" but I also have several "Other Stories" to tell. I hope that I can count on you to be a "Weekly" reader.

Hmm...I've been meaning to ask you something. Would you consider working on something with me? Something not necessarily funny.... I've got all these comic scripts I've been writing, with no one to draw them, and I freaking LOVE your art.

You know ... I could help you with the inking for free. Then maybe you could draw more.

I appreciate the offer my friend and would love to collaborate with you as I can easily imagine your "inking" style over my pencils. However, I am actually looking forward to putting away the brush pens and picking up a crow quill again. Also I wont be drawing any less this year, I just won't be posting on livejournal as often. In fact, to produce a new comic book page each week I may be drawing even more than I did last year.

I really wish I could but I've actually set the bar pretty high for myself this year. Writing, drawing, and inking 52 10" by 15" pages of original comic art is enough of a challenge for me without added a new comic strip into the mix. Although, I am sure the strip would be wonderfully written and beautifully drawn were we ever able to collaborate.

"Zinc Comics Weekly" starts this Sunday with a front cover image I've had in mind for along time. I have 51 additional pages scripted, 46 of them storyboarded and 17 pencilled already. I'm sure things will change as the project progresses but I've done all the preproduction I can. Now, it's time to work.
