The Toad #17

Reminds me of some of my earlier comic art ... except yours is better.

Each of these full page six panel comics featuring "The Toad" are my attempt to channel the spirit of Chuck Jones. I never read many comics as a kid but watched way to many Warner brothers cartoons.

When I started drawing webcomics, I did not have any influences except that I liked what Scott McCloud was doing with The Morning Improv. There were no spirit of any artist, because I really had no idea what I was doing. Perhaps i should have tried to emulate an artist instead of my random illustrating. The drawings were doodles at best, thrown together to make a gag (if I was lucky). There was no such thing as style or storytelling back then. However they did have a weird wackiness, while similar, paled in comparison to the likes of Chuck Jones and this comic you draw above.

Sadly, these cartoons are not early attempts at comics but created this millennium for "Zinc Comics" digest. However, they are among the first strips to feature "The Toad." After years of practicing my craft I have yet to develop a "style" nor am I any better at "storytelling."
