Meanwhile Back In The Year One
A year ago today, I started my livejournal inspired in part by John Mundt, Esq.'s own WOMP-Blog. Over the past year, I've posted 342 entries and recieved 384 comments. I made 477 comments of my own as well as 15 new friends. I've been befriended by 15 total strangers through the modern technology of the internet and joined 10 online communities. I drew 150 "Natty Dreadlocks and The Bear" daily journal comics and posted "101 Idle Drawings," I had gathering dust on the shelf, that had been previouly published in one form or another. I drew 25 "Works" and a bakers dozen new "Cane" comics. I also reprinted 12 of my favorite panels featuring "The Toad" from the 2007 monthly "Cane" mini-comic and posted 13 "Pictures Worth A Thousand."
In addition, I found time to run afoul of a furry and her furious friends over her freely using the word "faggot" in "HER" blog. I always considered "faggot" to be a hateful word but was told in no uncertain terms that it depends on the context. Now, I don't agree with that assumption but I won't argue this point with Mister F. anymore than I'd argue with Ice Cube about his own free use of the word "nigger."
I started the year in north east Arizona on the Navajo Nation and end it here in New Mexico 33 miles from the border. It has been a year of "Change" for both myself and the country. Some of the changes were for the better and some for the worse. I hope you enjoyed "Year One" and that you will continue to read "Zinc Comics" as I just purchased a permanent account. Over the next year, I have several changes in store for the blog as well and I hope you'll follow me down whichever path I may lead you. The future is now.

Hey, happy b-day man----and many more! It's been good getting to know ya.
Do you accept the use of the word "faggot" in the context of a comic when it's used by a homophobic character?

Thanks! I'd say that over half the comments I've recieved over the past year are from either David Ano or yourself and I appreciate feedback as much as Jimi Hendrix ever did. I consider the two of you the biggest fans and harshest critics of my work.
I'm more of a champion of the underdog like "Tom Joad" rather than a card carrying member of the PC police and I have no problem with people saying things in real life or in a work of fiction that satirize or portray the cruel world in which we live. However, I do take exception to straight people that profess to be gay friendly tossing around the word "faggot" as if it's as harmless as "nincompoop" or "ninny." I just can't comprehend what anyone could have against a harmless bundle of sticks or twigs.

Haha! I will call myself your number one fan. I am not sure if sersugg is really a bigger fan or not, but to break a tie, my name comes first alphabetically. ;)

Well, since we live in the same town you won't have to travel very far. Take a left on Zinc when traveling west on Pine, a right on Ash and then turn left again at the hospital. Head south on 8th towards "Tres Hermanas" until you hit Dona Anna and hang a right. Finally, take yet another left on South Socorro Street and you're home free.

how are you liking it here?
i'm directly across from subway, pine and tin are the cross streets, number 401(big yellowish brick house which looks like it has an attic). unfortunately i'm rarely home right now as i'm sitting with a friend that is passing at night when not at work in the same facility

I am glad to be reading your journal for a year and look forward to reading more! I am glad you found me and decided not to sue me over the use of the name of my comic. :P

I'm glad that someone has been reading my journal over the past 365 days. Next year, I will probably not post as often nor as much but hope to create quality over quantity comics in the future. I'll leave it to you and Hugo to decide how successful I am in this endeavor.Edited at 2008-12-23 12:57 am (UTC)

Hey! Congrats on the year of blogerations! I always enjoy your postings. Each feels like a private, existential haiku at which you've allowed us to peek. Also, thanks for the shout-out. And those other guys might have to wrassle me for title of Biggest Brian Payne Fan. I'm not giving it up without a scrap! I hope that you are having a wonderful time in your new digs. It recently occurred to me that you've lived in some of the most fabled places in our nation...including Iowa, of course. If ever there was someone who deserved to walk in the shadow of ancient peoples and stories, it's you, my friend! Peace and Love right back atchya.

Well Mr. Mundt, I hope you're happy. It's your fault I started this Blog in the first place and that makes you responsible for better or worse for me inflicting my insipid illustrations and banal blogging upon the world wide web. I'm glad you are still a fan after 365 days of my "painful" posts. You really don't have to fight those guys (you might injure your drawing hand) just politely inform them that you were there first.
Yes, I have been lucky enough to have lived all over these United States and look forward to visiting Mexico in the springtime as it is only 33 miles away. Deming is a nice south western town but I am still experiencing culture shock after my year on the reservation.
